Current Work

My current work explores the multi-layered concept of "border crossing," not only through the act of trespassing but also through the experience of being unable to cross. The images of bridges, in particular, are inspired by personal experience. Like so many in the immigrant community, I have been targeted with a demand to prove my citizenship, despite having derived citizenship status as a child. These paintings are about my inability to literally "cross," a right that has been taken from me, and they reflect my deep thoughts on what home and belonging truly mean, and the freedoms and rights associated with it.

My Sketchbook Process

My sketchbook process is a reflection of my personal journey, inspired in large part by my gym community. Thanks to their encouragement, I've developed the strength and endurance to get out and hike more, which in turn has made me more comfortable with painting outdoors. Just as a good workout begins with small steps and a proper warm-up, so does my creative process. My sketchbook serves as a hybrid of a journal, a means of relaxation, and a warm-up for larger projects. It is a place where big ideas grow from small, deliberate steps.
